This last Saturday (15 May) saw the worship evening Breakthrough take place at Christ Church Kenilworth. Organized and hosted by us, the young adults, Breakthrough was created so that we could have an evening of pushing into God. The tag line “an evening of encountering God through passionate worship and seeking Him” was the vision and, by His grace, was made real.

The worship band was lead by Matt Dennis, tag-teaming with Nick Miller for different songs.  The quality of heart to go along with the quality of sound really made worship free and exuberant. The joyful dancing and praise were most epic with the African songs where the whole church jived together before the LORD!

Here are some of the testimonies of what our good God did in our lives:

A huge thank you must go out to Jeremy Jobling, the Hewittsons and Vowles who prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed (at 6am nogal)! Your wisdom and heart for God is so inspiring! And thanks to everyone who helped out, whether it was with administration, praying, taking care of children so your spouse can pray, playing the violin, singing with all you’ve got or dancing like crazy before God! This really was a collaborative effort of God’s people seeking together to push deeper into Him and everything He has for us!

And all we can say is, “Moooooooore LORD!”

What is a Holiday Club?

A Holiday Club is a 5-day programme aimed at reaching churched and un-churched school aged children with the Good news of Jesus, in the context of a well-organised, fun-filled programme. Each Club is run by a team of well-trained, committed Christians, according to the values of Scripture Union.

St John’s Soccer School and Holiday Club

Soccer school: 14^th – 19^th June 2010

Venue: TBC (either Wynberg Military base or Wynberg Girl’s Primary school)

Children between the ages of 5-15 will be able to be a part of a soccer coaching clinic where the aim is to present the gospel.

This is done through soccer related life skills, memory verses, drama, small group time and a gospel presentation.

They will also be taught basic soccer skills

We still need most equipment for the soccer school (soccer poles, bibs, balls per child, cones) and we are also still looking for some female leaders. You do not need to have soccer skills (we will train you) but you do need to be willing to run around, be silly and have a passion for ministry and Jesus.

Holiday Club: 28^th June – 2^nd July

Venue: St John’s Church Wynberg

Holiday club follows a similar format to Soccer school. We use drama, memory verses, small group time, games and crafts as a means to build relationships with young children and ultimately present the gospel.

The difference is that we run two separate programs – Children (grade r -7) in the morning and teens (grade 8 – 12) in the evening. As we run two programs, the leaders live on site. This is a sleep away program.

WE are looking for more leaders as well as financial support for this program to run. Anyone 17 and up is welcome to lead (though we do prefer matric and older). As it’s a sleep away program we also need shower venues and meals for the leaders.

Connect Group – Every second Wednesday evening during term time about 40 of us gather as a Connect Group. This is a place that’s geared towards helping people connect with each other – to know and be known – and to discover and grow in our gifts and Godly calling. We meet at 7:45 for 8pm in Callow House – just across the road from the main church building.

Connect Group dates for the third term: July 23rd, August 6 & 20, September 3 & 17

Wednesday small groups – these are smaller groups that meet every alternate Wednesday evening in Callow House. Small groups are a place to grow in Christlikeness in a more intimate, accountable and confidential setting.

Sunday evening service @ 7pm – of the three Sunday worship gatherings this is the one most geared towards young adults. Join us for worship, teaching, communion, prayer and one of a number of ad-hoc social get togethers afterwards – favourite destinations are Banana Jam, Burruso’s, Spur or someone’s house somewhere …

Weekend Camps – Once or twice a year we get together for a weekend to relax together, worship and engage with teaching that’s focused at our age group.

Opportunities to serve – there are many areas of ministry we can plug you into. Some examples are our youth ministry, worship groups, Ministry among the Poor teams, prayer teams and even helping run our young adult events. Let us know if you’re interested.
