What’s Your Mission?

There are two more What’s Your Mission? weekends planned for 2009: 29 – 31 May 2009 and 13 – 15 November 2009.

About the experience:
Life in the big city doesn’t always allow us the time and space to clear our mind, get in touch with our soul and ask the big questions. If you are feeling overworked, trapped, pressured, unsure about the future, facing a big decision, or just trying to make sense of your life, then this weekend retreat could be the opportunity you need. These are some of the questions you will face and answer on this weekend:
* What is my mission?
* What are my values?
* What are my commitments?
* Is there anything missing in my life right now?
* What does God expect of me?
* What gifts have I been given that I’m not using?
* What is my dream?
And many more.The programme offers guided reflection and large amounts of time for quiet individual reflection – and some extraordinary about who you want to be and what you want to do with your life. Goedgedacht has many spots to sit quietly for contemplation, a beautiful chapel for worship and meditation, and trails for walks in the fresh country air. Participants will have the opportunity to spend time individually with Jeremy Clampett, the facilitator, during the course of the weekend.

Who can attend?
This is a ministry of Christ Church, Kenilworth, and is open to men and women of any age from anywhere. Previous participants have included:
* A range of professional people, including accountants, actuaries, architects, artists

* Divorcees
* Husbands and wives

About Jeremy Clampett

Jeremy Clampett is an Associate Minister of Christ Church who runs a part of his Life and Business coaching practice under the auspices of Christ Church. This “What’s Your Mission?” experience is offered as a service to the community because there are many people who need the opportunity to go on a guided Christian retreat to think and pray about their life and future in a safe, guided and confidential environment. Jeremy is married to Jen, is father to four children, and lives in Rondebosch. He was previously General Director of Scripture Union South Africa, and currently is responsible for the ministry to men in Christ Church as well as the Mentoring programme. He is a seasoned facilitator of group processes.

Reports of past weekends:
Some comments from previous weekends appear below:

In November 2006 the first group met in Hermanus.
One participant commented:

I found the weekend late last year very valuable, because you provided a range of tools and exercises with which I could stop and plot my position, review my brief, take a dispassionate look at my circumstances, check the environmental factors and discover that I was off-course. Then there was time and space to learn from God what adjustments would be necessary to better position myself. I realised where I had gone wrong, and I decided that weekend to terminate the line that I had been following and not to make the same mistakes again. As a result I have spent the last 9 months in a new and fruitful space from which have emerged opportunities that I had never before contemplated. Thank you!

The second group met at Goedgedacht, near Riebeek Kasteel, in May 2007.

Participants reflected as follows:
I realized at our week end that I had actually been avoiding putting some very pertinent questions to myself and answering them honestly. I preferred to gloss things over, or take the easy way out, thinking it will sort itself out. Somehow, I had never learnt to critically assess a situation, and I felt pretty comfortable just going on in the same old way. Although in the last while I developed this niggling feeling that I was missing something, some truth was evading me. And that is probably why I went away on that week end.
That week end shifted something in my thinking.
My decision would have been impossible before the Goedgedacht week end. You gave direction to my thoughts, asked some uncomfortable questions, too, but most of all you encouraged me to trust God, to trust myself and acknowledge my gut-feelings.
Whatever the future holds I feel I now have some useful tools that will help sort out things (and I know they will come!) that go awry. But most important of all: I have put my hopes and desires into words and I feel I am on the road to achieving them.
Thank you for being my midwife.

A third, smaller, group met at Goedgedacht in August 2007.

One participant commented:

The journey that we embarked upon was a great help to me and the ministry I do. I have been feeling a little overwhelmed by the task at hand as we now are facing a huge increase on what I was having to manage in the past. Needless to say I was feeling overwhelmed and inadequate.
The retreat was so useful in helping me bring together idea and vision. Helping me move forward with a clearer picture of what is needed and how God is going to use me to fulfill this.
This weekend was strategic in helping me refresh for the next leg of the journey

A fourth group met at Goedgedacht in March 2008.

One participant wrote afterwards: Goedgedacht is a wonderful venue and I really appreciated the quiet way in which you guided us through the weekend. There were some important thought-provoking moments for me and I was challenged in unexpected ways. Always good to be jolted out of complacency!

Another wrote: Thanks again for a great weekend. I found the reflective time extremely useful and am feeling connected with Him and wanting to experience more of His character.
