Orchestral music has been firmly established at Christ Church since the 1970’s when Christine Dare with the assistance of Tony Westwood and John Birch established an Orchestra. The opportunity for members of the church and the wider St. John’s Parish to use their talents by playing their orchestral instruments in worship has been welcomed by the congregation and musicians alike.
Today Christ Church boasts an Orchestra of over 40 musicians. The Orchestra is a seasonal group which performs for the Nine Lessons and Carols, Christmas Day, Easter Day, Songs of Praise and Parish Praise.
Orchestral arrangements used by our Orchestra are largely ‘home-grown’! Richard Haigh, Tony Westwood and Matthew Dennis, all members of Christ Church, have composed, arranged and continue to arrange many settings of Hymns, Carols, Songs and Anthems to be used in our worship and witness.
Orchestral musicians of Grade 6 level and above are welcome to join the Orchestra.
