Here are a few typical incisive questions that can be used during a mentoring session:

  • If you knew you had the support you needed, what significant change would you like to make in the way you live and work?
  • What would you have to do or stop doing that would enable you to be more of an ‘excellent disciple of Jesus Christ’?
  • What’s gone well for you over the past while?
  • When you’re at your best, what are you doing?
  • What Biblical personality most reminds you of yourself, and why?
  • What do you most hope for?
  • If you were to count your blessings, can you name some of them?
  • Are you satisfied with your financial position? If not, what would have to happen for you to achieve satisfied? If you are, how did you achieve this?
  • How would you define success for yourself at this stage of your life?
  • If God were present with you know, and made the offer, what would you ask him to do for you?
  • Do you feel loved by God? Explain your answer.
  • What positive character trait have you inherited from either one of your parents?
