Green Ideas and Queries
This page is a place for Christ Church members to share ideas and queries that are troubling them about caring for creation. If you have Queries or Ideas about creation stewardship, you can have them posted here by contacting Glenn Truran. Members are encouraged to help answer and comment on the content. Remember, you may find plenty of inspiration in the Useful “Green” Webpages section – use the menu on the right of this view to navigate there ….
Ideas from the 10am congregation shared at the green table;
- Energy saving on you computer screen – use Blackle, the energy saving search engine as your internet browser home page – read more about Blackle. It is the same as Google but has a black background which uses less electricity. Blackle has an Energy Saving Tips page as well.
- Grow your own vegetables or buy from a local, small green grocer
- Refuse (a green pun!) to take packaging home from the supermarket; leave the packaging at the counter and tell them to deal with it (explain why)
- Use Guineapigs to mow your lawn! They will mow the lawn to a consistent level and leave fertilising pellets everywhere. [this is my favourite from a younger member of the congregation - I know it works]
Queries from the congregation needing solutions:
- Q: What to do about downlighters? A: Any energy efficient suggestions? Maybe try the commercial link on our useful websites page and see if they can help.
- Q: Solar Water Heaters? A: see useful website links and tell us what you find out …
- Q: Garden refuse collection – does it happen. A: can anyone suggest something?
- Q: Rubbish separation in blocks of flats. Can we compress refuse? Can we bring in body corporate legisaltion if this is helpful? A: David Linegar suggests colour coding bins to help street people who rummage in bins to get what they want without making a mess. Other suggestions anyone?
