Pursuing a united pattern of daily Bible reading
In a desire for us as members of Christ Church to be united in listening to God as we read Scripture I am suggesting we follow the practice of using the readings set out in the Common Lectionary for Morning and Evening Prayer as part of our personal discipline of Bible reading and prayer.
There are three readings for each day - from the Old Testament, The New Testament and from the Gospels as well as Psalms set for both morning and evening. Following this lectionary, most of Scripture will be read in a two-year cycle. You can develop whatever pattern works for you but it is suggested that the first two are read in the morning and the Gospel in the evening. The Psalms appointed for each day (morning and evening) follow a two monthly cycle.
My suggestion is that you under promise yourself and over deliver. In other words undertake to use perhaps one of the readings and commit yourself to doing that. If you want to read more then do of course. But stick to the manageable commitment you have made yourself.
