Finding your Purpose
(previously What's your Mission?)
The next Finding your Purpose weekend is scheduled for 18 – 20 May 2012. The cost is R850. For more information go to http://www.jeremyclampett.za.bz/weekend-retreats.aspx There is another weekend later this year: 16 - 18 November 2012 - also at Goedgedacht.
About the experience:
Life in the big city doesn’t always allow us the time and space to clear our mind, get in touch with our soul and ask the big questions.
If you are feeling overworked, trapped, pressured, unsure about the future, facing a big decision, or just trying to make sense of your life, then this weekend retreat could be the opportunity you need.
These are some of the questions you will face and answer on this weekend:
- What are my values?
- What are my commitments?
- Is there anything missing in my life right now?
- What does God expect of me?
- What gifts have I been given that I’m not using?
- What is my dream?
And many more.
The programme offers guided reflection and large amounts of time for quiet individual reflection. Goedgedacht has many spots to sit quietly for contemplation, a beautiful chapel for worship and meditation, and trails for walks in the fresh country air. Delegates are free to spend time individually with Jeremy during the course of the weekend.
The purpose of the weekend is to create a relaxed and safe opportunity to think and pray through the direction life is taking. Its an opportunity to work out a personal mission statement, to think through one’s values, interests, and a picture of the life God is inviting you to live. We’ll think through what it is you need to do in order to live at your best. Above all, if you are facing an important decision, or approaching a change in your life’s direction, this will be a good place to prepare for that.
Who can attend?
This is a ministry of Christ Church, Kenilworth, but anyone is welcome to attend. Delegates in the past have included:
- A range of professional people, including accountants, actuaries, architects,
- artists, business-owners, entrepreneurs …
- Retirees, or people about to retire
- Young people starting out on a career
- Working people questioning their employment
- Non-working people who would like to do something meaningful
- People with a dream but don’t know what to do about it
- Divorcees
- Husbands and wives – couples are welcome.
There are only 16 places available at each weekend – first come, first served.

Previous participants have this to say:
"Taking time out to reflect and examine life's priorities is invaluable in giving fresh focus and direction. Jeremy is enormously helpful in enabling the right questions to be asked and in facilitating an environment in which progress can be made to finding answers. This is achieved without pressure but there's plenty of wisdom and common sense available when its needed." Geoff Everingham, Emeritus Professor of Accounting at UCT

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. It really helped us reflect very deeply about where we were going in life and make certain adjustments. Jeremy’s incisive questions were particularly challenging and helpful. The times of quiet personal reflection were also highly beneficial. I can heartily recommend the weekend for anyone wishing for renewed direction and purpose in life. Two years ago that I attended the weekend at the farm. I can vividly recall the feeling of pure terror in the time leading up to the weekend, not knowing what to expect, thinking that I would have to ‘take my clothes off’ in front of a group of highly committed Christians, people who had for YEARS known exactly what it meant to have a deep-rooted faith, people who were totally comfortable with praying aloud in the same articulate tones I had experienced at Christ Church, and I would be expected to do the same and be part of all of this, when I felt the opposite.
Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong. I had the most amazing time. I met a whole lot of new people who were interesting and fun. There was a lot of ‘free/own’ time which I really appreciated and consider one of the most important aspects of the weekend - time to reflect, time to walk in the beautiful surroundings, time just to ‘be’. There was also time to interact with each other in a relaxed way. The program was simple but profound, carefully thought through; and it was very sensitively led by Jeremy. We were given the opportunity to give and receive as much as we felt we could or wanted to – I didn’t feel under any pressure (which is what I had been most afraid of). It was a most significant time in my life. Peter Golding, CEO Pam Golding Commercial and Director, Western Cape Education Foundation.

Plato said “ The life unexamined in not worth living”.
I am a successful consulting engineer working on exciting projects, I have a large wonderful family and I enjoy my sport. On the surface I looked successful, but mostly I felt exhausted and bereft of joy as I hurried from one activity to the next, anxious about time and knowing that I need to slow my life down before I did irreparable damage to my health. Two years ago I went on the weekend led by Jeremy and afforded myself the opportunity to pause and examine my life. The weekend allowed me to re-evaluate the way I live my life, what is important to me, what are my strengths, what did I still want to achieve and then how to make mid-course corrections that would allow me to fulfil my dreams and to enjoy the richness my life had to offer. I have become more aware of my mission in life, how to effectively accomplish my mission, and my health and joy have been restored. Andre Frieslaar, Director, HHO Africa, public transport expert.

I attended a weekend organised by Jeremy in 2009. Various important issues in my life - mainly work related- needed to be addressed but were simply being left on the “To do” pile and I was not getting to them. It was a wet, cold and windy weekend which inhibited exploring the outdoors but meant that I had to knuckle down and grapple with my issues. And I did. The welcoming atmosphere, comfortable accommodation, good food and interesting fellow travellers combined with the thoughtful and insightful leading of Jeremy made this an ideal “time out” for considered reflection. It was a very fruitful weekend in my personal faith and life journey. I would fully recommend and endorse you attending a weekend if you are in need of space and time to reflect on the way forward in your life. Barry Jessop, Attorney.

‘I found the weekend late last year very valuable, because you provided a range of tools and exercises with which I could stop and plot my position, review my brief, take a dispassionate look at my circumstances, check the environmental factors – and discover that I was off-course. Then there was time and space to learn from God what adjustments would be necessary to better position myself. I realised where I had gone wrong, and I decided that weekend to terminate the line that I had been following and not to make the same mistakes again. As a result I have spent the last 9 months in a new and fruitful space from which have emerged opportunities that I had never before contemplated. Thank you!’ (Anon)

The retreat was so useful in helping me bring together idea and vision. Helping me move forward with a clearer picture of what is needed and how God is going to use me to fulfill this. (Anon) |
