What is Alpha?
The Alpha course is open to anyone interested in discovering what Christianity is about. It's a place where guests can relax, eat, share thoughts and explore the meaning of life.
Who is Alpha for?
The Alpha Course is designed primarily for people who aren't churchgoers and is open to anyone who would like to attend.
Why attend the Alpha Course?
Guests come on the Alpha course for many different reasons; some want to investigate whether God exists and some have questions they'd like to discuss. Many guests have never been to church and others may have attended church but feel they have never had a personal understanding of the Christian faith.
How Alpha works
Alpha courses are based around small groups of 6 to 12 people, led by one or two hosts whose role is to facilitate and encourage discussion. Courses vary in size and may be held over morning coffee, during a lunch hour or in the evenings. The Alpha course meets weekly for ten weeks with a day or weekend away in the middle. Each session begins with a meal or refreshments and a short talk looking at a different aspect of the Christian faith each week. This is followed by a time of group discussion, where guests can ask questions and contribute their opinions. This is a non-threatening environment where you are free to ask anything you like. No question is too simple or too controversial. We don’t claim to have all the answers but we are not afraid of honest open discussion.
There is no charge to attend the Alpha course, although you may like to make a donation towards the cost of meals.
What past guests have to say about their experience on courses: “Eye opening experience. I feel I’ve gained a lot and learnt about God and got rid of some stereotypes and questions.” “The small groups were a safe place for open, honest discussion.” “I enjoyed being part of a small group. The people were open, understand and supportive… Didn’t feel judged for once.” “The cooks were great. We looked forward to Wednesday evenings!” “Thank you for what has only just been the start of my life!” “I found my purpose.”

What hosts and helpers have to say about their involvement in Alpha: “Learning just to let people have their say taught me a very practical way of loving people… it was revolutionary for me to learn that just by listening to them, they will be more open to hearing the little I have to say.” “I think one of the things that made this Alpha work so well is the vibe of lots of people there. Having been involved, I’m more likely to invite work colleagues to the next course.”
