What are some of the Staff at Christ Church reading ?

Jared - WALKING WITH GOD – John Eldredge
Over the past decades the emphasis within the charismatic movement has shifted to the prophetic and hearing from God. As exciting as this sounds, for many the thought of hearing from God is either something scary or something unfamiliar. Through John Eldredge’s complete honesty, we have insight into what this looks like from an every-day perspective. The book follows his journal through a year, and in each of the four seasons presented we get little nuggets and vignettes of truth that inspire us to walk with God daily. The book also links to its own website where you can watch further videos on the topic – with John expounding on some of the key concepts. It’s certainly a book that you’ll buy a few more copies to distribute to friends. At a time where Christ Church is also placing an emphasis on Discipleship, this is a highly recommended companion for the journey.

John -
The Church Jesus Prayed For by Michael Cassidy

Michael Cassidy’s seminal work – which was written over three decades - is a personal dissection, interpretation and explanation of  John 17, the awesome and enigmatic prayer that Jesus prayed for his church shortly before his crucifixion. Having prayed for what His mission was to birth after He had gone to the Father, Jesus led his disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane. This was their last time together and He meant it to count. After describing the context of the prayer in the first five chapters, Michael identifies the 10 essential elements of this church that Jesus so desired. He observes that Jesus prays for Truth and Holiness, on the one hand and for Unity and Love, on the other and notes the enormous tension that these two poles  evoke as that church seeks to honour our Holy God through adherence to the Truth, whilst at the same time striving to hold those whose viewpoints differ, in bonds of Unity and Love. In between fall Prayerfulness, Protection, Mission, Joy, Power and Glory and each element is investigated in detail.  It’s powerful and heavy stuff, of course, yet Cassidy has a light style. Certainly, it’s the most important Christian book I’ve read.

Margie - The gift of an ordinary day -
I read a lovely book 'The gift of an ordinary day': Katrina Kenison. It was beautifully written and seemed to describe perfectly where I find myself in terms of parenting! One which can be read again and again each time getting something new from it.
